What is this program about?
This 10-week program is a supportive and empowering space for immigrant Muslim women to connect, share their experiences, and strengthen skills for navigating life in a new country while honouring faith, culture, and personal values.
Who is this program for?
It is designed for Muslim women who have recently immigrated or are in the process of adjusting to life in a new country. Whether you’ve been here for a few months or several years, you are welcome.
Do I need to speak fluent English to be eligible to join?
No. The group welcomes all English language levels. Facilitators will speak clearly and encourage women to share in the language with which they are most comfortable. Translation support may be available if needed.
How many women will be in the group?
The group will be kept small (about 8-12 women) to ensure everyone has a chance to participate and feel comfortable.
Do I have to share personal details?
No one is required to share anything they are not comfortable with. We respect your personal boundaries, and all sharing is voluntary in this safe space.
Will childcare be provided?
Depending on availability, childcare may be offered on-site to make participation easier. Please check with the facilitator in advance.
What if I am unable to attend all 10 weeks?
We understand that life can be unpredictable, and we want to accommodate your needs. While we encourage full attendance to maximize your benefits, you can still join even if you need to miss some sessions.
Will my participation be confidential?
Yes, your participation will be confidential. What is shared in the group stays in the group. Confidentiality and respect are the foundation of the program, ensuring a secure and safe space for all participants.
Can I bring a friend or family member with me?
The group is designed specifically for immigrant Muslim women. If your friend or family member is also an immigrant Muslim woman, she is welcome to register separately.
Who can join this group? This supportive program is designed for immigrant Muslim women, parents, and caregivers currently involved with children’s services. It offers a nurturing environment for personal growth and learning in parenting support.
How long is the program? The group therapy runs for 10 weeks, with one session each week.
How long is each session? Each session lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours.
What happens during the sessions? Sessions include guided discussions, practical tools for parenting, stress management strategies, and opportunities to share experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
Do I have to attend all 10 sessions? We encourage participants to attend each session to maximize their benefits from the program, but we understand that life can be unpredictable. If you need to miss a session, you can check in with the facilitator to stay on track. We're here to support you, no matter what life throws your way.
Will what I share be kept private? Yes, your privacy is of utmost importance. All information shared in the group is kept confidential, except in cases where safety concerns arise.
What if I feel nervous about joining? That’s completely normal. Many parents, especially immigrant Muslim women, initially feel unsure, but most find the group to be a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free space. You're not alone in this journey.
Will this affect my involvement with children’s services? Participation shows your commitment to learning and growth. While the group doesn’t directly change your case decisions, it can support you in building stronger parenting skills and self-advocacy.
